When I found out that I had to watch Captain America: The First Avenger for our review path to Avengers: Endgame, I had mixed feelings. Reviewsīryan Wojtanik (Woj): Before I say anything else, I feel like I should start this off by saying I am Team Tony Stark, so I will try my best to be unbiased here. Joining forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), Captain America leads the fight against the Nazi-backed HYDRA organization. Finally, Steve gets his chance when he is accepted into an experimental program that turns him into a supersoldier called Captain America. Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) wants to do his part and join America’s armed forces, but the military rejects him because of his small stature. It is 1941 and the world is in the throes of war. Spoilers are ahead for the original Cap film and check back each week until April 26 for a new movie. While Iron Man really started the MCU, Chris Evans’ Cap came first in the universe’s continuity. To start we’re going back to 2011/World War II for Captain America: The First Avenger. Every week a few Gotham writers will watch an MCU entry and review it, seeing how it’s aged, and what role it played in the cinematic universe. To honor the MCU and the release of Endgame, Gotham Sports Network will be looking back at each of the 20 MCU films over the next 20 weeks in chronological order. The MCU has been incredibly influential for film and comic book fans alike three of the top ten grossing movies ever have the word “Avengers” in the title (soon to be four in April). Avengers: Endgame finally drops in 20 weeks, the coda in more than a decade’s worth of Marvel Cinematic Universe films - 22 to be exact - leading to this point.
